The Japanese Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that a 7.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at 15.36 (CET), north-east of Japan at a depth of approximately 60 kilometers.

Currently, the investigations into the nuclear facilities in the north-east of Japan are being carried out in order to detect any abnormalities in this area. The Japanese Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) will timely inform the International Atomic Energy Agency on any changes in this regard. The same region was hit by a powerful earthquake in 2011 and resulted in the nuclear accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
