Young SRBATOM specialist wins national competition in nuclear innovations

Djordje Djordjevic from Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM) has been named the winner of the national competition Innovation for Nuclear (I4N) in 2026.

This national competition, organized by the Serbian Nuclear Society through its Young Generation Network, which is a part of the European Nuclear Society’s official I4N program, was held in the premises of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia. The teams from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac presented innovative solutions in the field of nuclear technologies and related disciplines. The winner will represent the Republic of Serbia at the European finals in Edinburgh, which will be organized by the Young Generation Network of the European Nuclear Society (ENS YNG).

“We would like to congratulate the winner of the national nuclear innovation competition, whose diligence and knowledge best showcase the potential of young professionals in Serbia. We take particular pride in the fact that Djordje is a member of our staff and that his success helps strengthen professional capacities in the field of nuclear safety and security. This is why any support of this kind of initiative is crucial for the development of our national human resources, which are indispensable for the long-term development of the nuclear sector in the Republic of Serbia. Strengthening ‘human infrastructure’ is a basis for a sustainable, secure and strategic development of this sector”, said SRBATOM Director, Sladjan Velinov.

I4N Serbia 2026 is aimed at affirming the nuclear profession and connecting the academic community with the industry, with a special focus on young professionals. The future driving forces of the development in this sector are the very students, researchers, and pupils currently entering the fields of science and technology. The competition is part of the pan-European Innovation for Nuclear (I4N) initiative, which brings together multidisciplinary teams of young professionals to develop innovative ideas for the application of nuclear technologies.

The winning team of the national competition will present their solutions at the European level, promoting the visibility and inclusion of young specialists from the Republic of Serbia into the international currents of nuclear science and technology development.
