The automatic measuring station for radioactivity monitoring in the air with an integrated immediate alarming feature has been installed on Bajmok border crossing between Serbia and Hungary.

Bearing in mind the proximity of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary, it has been estimated that the installation of this automatic measuring station on Bajmok border crossing will significantly strengthen the capacities for the protection of people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. This station has detectors for efficient and swift detection of radionuclides likely to be discharged into the environment in case of a nuclear or radiological emergency.

This measuring station in Bajmok is a part of the project “Improving Environmental Monitoring and Assessment for Radiation Protection in the Region”, which is jointly implemented by Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The installation of this device will significantly improve the systematic environmental examination of radioactivity in our country.
