NUCLEAR SAFETY TODAY

Conference on Radiation Sources and Nuclear Technology Applications

Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate organizes “Nuclear Safety Today” conference as an online event.

Title of conference: Nuclear Safety Today – Conference on Radiation Sources and Nuclear Technology Applications

Date and time: 02 December 2020, 10.30 am

Location: Live stream on You Tube channel of the Directorate.

This year’s conference is dedicated to the latest trends in two largest branches of nuclear technology application – medicine and energy, as well as the use of modern techniques based on ionizing radiation in studying and preserving cultural heritage. We aim at narrowing the gap between the professional circles and the public on one side, and the cutting edge achievements in the use of radiation sources and nuclear energy on the other. We also aim at presenting the current practices in the use of ionizing radiation sources in the diagnostics and treatment of different diseases ranging from COVID-19 to the gravest ones, drawing near further steps in nuclear energy development, as well as presenting the latest achievements based on ionizing radiation applied in the field of studying and preserving cultural heritage.

The Conference is divided into three separate panel discussions titled as follows:

  1. Medical Applications: New Techniques

2. Nuclear Power: Step Forward

3. Radioactivity, Art, and Cultural Heritage

The panel of Medical Applications: New Techniques covers the topical issue of combating COVID-19 pandemic, as well as modern diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in medicine that are applied in Serbia. Its purpose is not only to point at the new technology available in Serbia, but also at the steps taken to provide the patients in Serbia with more efficient diagnostics and treatment of the diseases ranging from COVID-19 to the gravest ones.

The panel of Nuclear Power: Step Forward covers two topical issues in the field of nuclear energy previewing the next step in the field of nuclear energy – generation IV nuclear reactors and small modular reactors. The aim is to shed light on the latest nuclear energy technologies, their safety and any other advantages in comparison with the previous generations.

The panel of Radioactivity, Art, and Cultural Heritage presents the latest accomplishments in the analysis and testing of works of art or cultural heritage by means of methods utilizing ionizing radiation sources, and their preservation by gamma ray sterilization.
