Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Hua Liu informed Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM) through official channels that the Agency ready to give full support to the Serbian institutions in their endeavors towards establishing and building up the national capacities and enhancing nuclear expertise and energy development.

This support by the IAEA will be realized in various related fields, through existing regional and interregional Technical Cooperation (TC) projects, including: strengthening capacities of the educational institutions for sustainable use of nuclear technologies, establishing and strengthening the national legal framework, support to states embarking on or expanding nuclear energy programmes in order to develop their national infrastructure for safe conducting of nuclear energy programme.

In his reply to the proposal for strengthening the cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the IAEA sent by Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate in December last year, the Deputy Director General Hua Liu added that, in addition to the assistance through regional and interregional project, the IAEA sees the expansion of the national technical support project as an important instrument in providing target and wide support to the development of nuclear energy programme.
