IAEA Programme Manager Officer visits Veterinary Specialist Institute Kraljevo

On the second day of her official stay in Serbia the Programme Manager Officer (PMO) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the Republic of Serbia, Maria Del Pilar Murillo Fuentes, together with the representatives of Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM), visited the Veterinary Specialist Institute Kraljevo.

The Director of the Institute, Dr Miso Kolarevic, introduced the guest with the history, organization and the competences of the Institute, and presented the progress in the implementation of the ongoing project “Strengthening of National Reference Laboratories Capacities for Early Detection, Epidemiological Surveillance and Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases in Emergency Situations“. This included presenting of the deisred outcomes and the output of the project, which is being successfully implemented with the support from the IAEA, as well as of the challenges the project users faced throught its realization.

Afterwards, the representatives of the Institute presented the objectives and the planned activities within the new project in the 2026-2027 cycle “Monitoring of animal and zoonotic pathogens in Livestock, wildlife and insects as reservoirs and vectors through Disease Prevalence Assessment, Pathogen Characterization, and Vaccine Efficacy Management“.

Following the meeting, the hosts and the guest took a tour of the Institute laboratories with the installed equipment intended for research and procured with the support of the IAEA.
