20 \u2013 24 January 2020 Sofia, Bulgaria \u2013 Participants from 16 IAEA Member States discussed the issues arising in the course of transposing the relevant EU Directives, especially the basic safety standards Directive (Council Directive 2013\/59\/Euratom), the nuclear safety Directive (Council Directive 2014\/87\/Euratom) and the radioactive waste Directive (Council Directive 2011\/70\/Euratom). <\/p>\n\n
According to the IAEA report (https:\/\/www.iaea.org\/newscenter\/news\/identifying-legislative-assistance-needs-and-activities-for-iaea-member-states-in-europe-and-central-asia) in this regard, the workshop significantly benefited from the participation of Ms Ruta Staneviciene who is a Legal Officer in Directorate ENER D.1, EURATOM.<\/p>\n\n
This regional workshop was one in a series of events dedicated to the IAEA\u2019s legislative assistance programme, which also includes TC project entitled \u201cEnhancing National legal Frameworks in European Member States\u201d.<\/p>\n\n
The IAEA\u2019s report quoted Serbian representative from Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate, who said: \u201cWe benefited from the IAEA\u2019s legislative assistance and adopted a new Law on Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security in 2018. The new technical cooperation project provides the right vehicle from which other Member States can benefit from legislative assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
More than 50 participants contributed to the success of this workshop which was organized in cooperation with the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) and the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (BNRA).<\/p>\n\n
